Snowflake Excursion, NH

Car limit: 35
Excursion fee: $410.00 including Saturday evening accommodation at Lincoln
EC(s): Gordy Wallick & the NEREX Team

NEREX is pleased to again offer what had become an Area 1 tradition, the 14th annual "Snowflake" excursion. This "End of Season" last hurrah is a wonderful overnight excursion between Concord and Lincoln, NH. This excursion is hosted by two railroads in New Hampshire, the Hobo Railroad & the New England Southern Railroad. Total round trip mileage for the weekend is about 140 miles. Our trip takes us along the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee and its' tributary rivers, over what has been billed as New England's smallest drawbridge, which we have to operate as it is normally open this time of year, through mountains, fields, and golf courses. There are several other bridges and trestles to cross as well. We tie up in Lincoln on one leg of the Lincoln Wye, which is about 200 yards from a newly remodeled, and very well kept, four story Express Inn. We have established a block of rooms for our participants for Saturday evening, one room is included with each registration. Additional rooms are available, at a discounted fee, for those requiring more than one. They offer a nice, included, continental breakfast on Sunday morning. NEREX will also be hosting a catered dinner on Saturday evening, right at the Express Inn, catered by Hart's Turkey Farm, a very popular regional restaurant. Hart's will be serving their "All American Buffet", a terrific turkey, ham and roast beef spread with all the fixins', and plenty of leftovers for sandwiches for Sunday. NEREX will provide everything needed for sandwiches. All part of this weekend package.
Seton and setoff location next to Interstate 93 in Concord, NH, is easy and convenient, and we typically get back to setoff around 2PM Sunday. Everyone is usually on their way home by 3PM. Scheduled dates are Saturday & Sunday, November 2nd & 3rd. We are planning early seton on Friday evening, the 1st, with overnight security for the railcars. There will be a 35 car limit for this excursion.
We call it the Snowflake because any time after mid-October it could snow in northern New England. We will be watching the long range weather forecast starting 10 days out. These two railroads are mostly seasonal, which means, if it snows, the tracks won't be passable. As is NEREX policy, in the event of cancellation, full refunds will be issued to all paid participants. Dress warmly, as the brass monkeys will surely be covering up in Lincoln, NH on Sunday morning!!
We usually set up a block of rooms for Friday evening, at the Comfort Inn located at 71 Hall Street in Concord, NH., but this year a hockey tournament has booked all available rooms. Everyone will be on their own for Friday evening. I would suggest you find lodging, if needed, soonest.
Thank You for supporting NEREX on our final excursion of the season.

You will have first right of refusal for a spot on this excursion, or, if we have it, next summer's excursion. Your choice. If we do not receive your registration within one week of posting this announcement, we will fill the excursion with other applications in the order they are received. Excursion fee: $315.00 (includes one overnight accommodation)
RT Miles: Approximately 106 miles
EC(s): Dan Peck

NEREX is pleased to announce our annual 2 day overnight excursion in New Hampshire. On Friday we will set on at Hazens, NH. as we did last year. We will have a portapotty at the seton. From here we will proceed East on the former Maine Central Mountain Division. Our journey takes us through Crawford Notch, over the Willey Brook and Frankenstein trestles, down the mountain, through Bartlett, and Mountain Junction, to end of track in Redstone, where we turn and head back to Mountain Junction. From Mountain Junction we head South on the old Boston & Maine Conway Branch, through North Conway Depot and on to Conway, a distance of about seven miles. We turn at Conway and head North to our overnight tie down in North Conway.
Our tie down is behind our included Friday night accommodation at the Hampton Inn & Suites, situated next to the tracks, 2 or 3 miles South of North Conway depot. There are several restaurants within walking distance of the Hampton Inn. The hotel is hosting a wine and cheese reception for our group on the main floor upon arrival. Overnight security for the cars is being provided. Mileage for the day, will be about 62 miles.
On Saturday we depart the hotel for North Conway Depot where we will have a brief stop so everyone can take in what is to be seen at this historic location, also ground zero for Conway Scenic Railroad operations. From here we depart for our return trip up the mountain to Hazens in time for early afternoon setoff. Mileage for the day will be about 44 miles. For those of you thinking of staying through Sunday, you might want to consider Mount Washington Cog Railway on Sunday, or perhaps the Conway Scenic dinner train Saturday evening.
Even though it is early foliage season, we may still see some evidence of the storied New England Fall foliage color.
Come ride with NEREX and have a fabulous time as we explore the Conway Scenic Railroad.
There will be a 30 car limit for this excursion. No hyrail trucks allowed, RR rules
